If you’ve seen Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them then chances are you fell in love with this adorable little creature called a niffler.
Well, looks like the animated fantastic beast, who has an affinity for all things shiny, may have been based on a real life animal! Meet one of Australia’s, and the world’s, rarest animals: the echidna. According to San Diego zoo they have, “remained unchanged since prehistoric times, finding ways to survive while other species became extinct.”
They are also one of the only mammals in the world that lays eggs. The best part though has to be that a baby echidna is called a puggle! Here’s more information from National Geographic!
