Katy Perry is an inspiration to many
At the Human Rights Campaign Gala she was honoured with the National Equality Award. During her speech she spoke openly about her upbringing in a very religious setting. She talked about how she used to “pray the gay away” at Christian conversion camps. Her path led to a more open and loving life. Talking about her love for the LGBT community and linking it back to the song “I Kissed a Girl” which started a conversation about curiosity. The fact that sexuality was not black and white. The 7 minute mark she expressed the action she will take in the fight for equal rights (although if you have time, the full speech is truly moving)
Katy Perry is a big supporter of equal rights for everyone! She said that her friends in the LGBT community have made her who she is today. They are loving, accepting and she wouldn’t be HALF the woman she is today if it weren’t for them. She dedicated her award to her manager, who has been by her side for the last 15 years.
