1. Plant a tree!
Clean the air and cool down your city at the same time! TreePeople.org says that “trees absorb odors and pollutant gases and filter particulates out of the air ” all while cooling “the city by up to 10°F, by shading our homes and streets, breaking up urban heat islands.”
2. Ride your bike instead of drive.
Ditch the car and hop on your bike instead! Not only does it reduce your carbon footprint but it’s also great exercise. According to the Heart and Stoke Foundation of Canada “every 7 minutes, heart disease or stroke take a Canadian life” and pedaling for just 5 to 10 minutes a day can keep your heart healthy!
3. Use a refillable water bottle.
According to The Water Project, a single use plastic water bottle can “take over 1,000 years to bio-degrade and if incinerated, they produce toxic fumes.”
4. Head out to your local farmer’s market.
Not only are you supporting local business but the produce at big chain grocery stores travel miles and miles to get to you. That shipping causes a lot of pollution.
5. Get outside!
Earth Day is all about reminding people how awesome and beautiful our planet it.
