It’s another exciting weekend here in the Forest City as there are many unique, fun events to experience with friends and family.
Check out all the exciting things happening this weekend in London!
London Comic Con!
I think it’s safe to say that we all “nerd out” for something. It could be a certain T.V show, movie, comic, toy…or all of the above. For me I was seriously addicted to both Top Gun and Smallville, so if there was ever a time I was in a room with Tom Cruise or Tom Welling…I would likely die!
If you’re a nerd at heart or have one in your house, then you can’t miss a visit (or two) to London Comic Con all weekend at Western Fair District. It’s the largest fan event in Southwestern Ontario and this year is going to be AMAZING!!!
There are celebrities including; William Shatner (Star Trek), Mick Foley (WWE), Seth Gilliam (The Walking Dead) and MANY more, autograph signings, live entertainment, tons of shopping and even a Cosplay Competition for cash and prizes!
Oktoberfest at Western Fair District!
Growing up 15 minutes outside of Kitchener, I heard A LOT about Oktoberfest and when I finally went during my first year of College…it didn’t disappoint!
I was so excited in 2015 when Western Fair District opened a Festhalle here in London and brought a taste of Oktoberfest to the Forest City. There’s just something about the atmosphere that you can’t find anywhere else. The sights (everyone dancing in dirndls & lederhosen), sounds (who knew polka music was that catchy) and the tastes (bring on the giant pretzels, sauerkraut and a cold beverage)…seriously you need to experience it for yourself!
The Midnight Village: Donnellys After Dark!
There’s nothing better to get into the Halloween spirit than going on a spooky walk or tour. It’s dark, maybe a little chilly and your mind starts playing tricks with sights and sounds that you’re not sure are real!
If you LOVE to get spooked and are a history buff, then you can’t pass up the chance to experience The Midnight Village: Donnellys After Dark. It starts tonight at Fanshawe Pioneer Village and runs through Oct 29th. You’ll travel back to 19th century Lucan Ontario and learn about the famous and deadly feud between the Donnellys and local vigilantes.
It’s only $10 tonight (Oct 13th) or $11 after that, check out the full schedule!
Trails Open London!
One of the first things I noticed when I started working in London is how beautiful the city is. There are so many parks, trails, paths and trees…so THAT’S why they call us The Forest City!
If you love the outdoors and want to get the kids involved in giving back to our fare city, then you need to come to the Trails Open London event on October 14th. Trails Open London promotes using our trails, natural heritage conservation, physical activity, healthy lifestyle and environmental education.
There are so many fun ways to get involved including:
- Helping to plant trees with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority from 10am-12pm
- Watch an exciting “Birds in Flight” show at 11am, 1pm & 3pm with Canadian Raptor Conservancy
- Get to hold, identify, hunt for…and even eat some insects
- Go on a hike with the Thames Valley Trail Association at 1pm
It’s all happening 10am-4pm at Tourism London Information Centre (696 Wellington Rd), so don’t miss it!
Check out this cool video from Earth Day back in April.
Fall Colour Ride!
If you have a motorcycle and love going for ride on a beautiful fall day, then you can’t miss the 21st Annual Fall Colour Ride at Hully Gully.
You’ll enjoy a leisurely ride and then lunch and chances to win prizes, including the coveted Corus Challenge Cup for the highest amount in pledges.
If you’re not a rider, you can go online and pledge someone as the proceeds support Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre!
